Oven Elements
Oven Elements 4U stock and supply genuine Oven Elements Fan Oven Elements, Grill Elements and elements to fit in the oven base available to fit Cookers, Hobs and Built in Ovens. Very popular now are a number of range cookers which come in varying sizes up to 48 inches wide and which often come with a gas hob and electric ovens, Supplies of the oven elements are held in stock but we do not supply the parts for the gas hob part of the cooker. We also supply a selection of pattern elements where there are no genuine elements available and when we feel that the pattern element gives a adequate and cheaper alternative. When you get no heat in the oven there is a very good chance that the element has failed, if the fan is still running and the indicator light is on when turning on the oven control its most likely the element, Although there are other reasons why the element will not function including not having the auto clock set correctly, you must ensure that the clock is set to a time bcause if its flashing zero's the oven will not come on and if the clock setting is not on its manual setting this will again fail to let the oven turn on. Visual inspection is also a good way to tell as often when a element fails there is a split or swelling in the outer metal sleeve of the element. There's about a 50% chance of being able change the element from the inside of the oven by removing the back plate from within the oven box and removing the fixing screws, also remember that that element will have wiring connection attached so remove the element gently to avoid pulling off the connections and losing them down the back of the oven, in some cases the element will be fixed by studs which will require you to removed the oven from its housing to remove the fixings and replace the element. One important piece of information that our service enginners have picked from completing cooker repairs ie: changing elements is that the use high powered oven cleaner spray which is used to clean ovens can cause premature failure of the element, this is caused by spray the cleaner though the holes in the back panel of the oven and then not removing this panel to clean the chemical from the surface of the element, this can be overcome to some extent buy covering the holes in the back panel up and along the top of the panel while spraying,
Grill Elements
Grill elements are normally control by an energy regulator and this should be checked also if the grill is not working, Where you have the grill element enclosed in the top of the main oven as in most single built-in ovens there is a always the problem of grease splashing up on to the grill element when using or cooking by the oven, and this deposit when using the grill can cause this to burn and produce smoke, this will normally burn off quite quickly but if its sometime since you used the grill can be quite alarming by the amount of smoke given off, its probably best to open your windows and let it burn off . Regular cleaning of the grill element will prevent the worst of this but can sometimes be difficult to reach behind the element to do this, one method which can be used is when cooking in the oven is cover on of the oven shelves with foil and slide this just below the grill element which prevents the grease and splashes reaching the element or to cover the food being cooked where possible.
Cooker Elements
Conventional cooking ovens which may also have fan heating have an element fitted under the base panel of the main oven which is used together with outer ring of the grill element to produce the heat in the oven, If taking a long while to cook it could be that this element has failed and if you can’t feel the base of the getting hot about 5 minutes after turning on this could be the case, testing of the element can only be undertaken by removal of the rear of the oven and therefore if the oven is built in will require the oven or cooker to be removed from the housing first, then either remove the element for visual inspection or carry out an electrical test on the element.Because of the limited space under the floor of the oven and the base panel this area gets very hot and element tend to distort out of shape and removing one can mean resorting to more than just sliding the old element out, There are still some older ovens in use that have side elements fitted and again these should be able to be removed from inside the oven by removing the center fixing on the rear bracket and the side fixing bracket, remember though that when pulling out the element from the oven these will have cables connected to the end spade's and need to careful not to dislodge these or they fall inside the back of the cooker.
